Work Experience / Health and Safety
Work Experience may be defined as:
a placement on employers' premises in which a learner carries out a particular task or duty, or range of tasks or duties, more lass as would an employee, but with the emphasis on the learning aspects of the experience.
The aim of work experience is to enable students to experience real work situations and relate them to their courses, identifying and developing their knowledge and skills.
Some of the objectives of work experience are for the student to:
-
Experience the demands of work e.g. time keeping, attendance, routines, team work and good working relationships.
- Develop self-confidence, maturity and initiative.
Work Experience benefits employers by:
- Providing motivational & personal development opportunities for members of staff who are directly involved with students, through development of their skills and increasing their sense of responsibility.
- Giving them fresh ideas and perspectives that can help deliver their business objectives.
- Providing opportunities to contribute to local communities and to build links which will enhance the profile and reputation of their own organisation.
- Providing opportunities to contribute directly to young people's education, through influencing their attitudes towards work and helping students to develop.
Worcestershire EBP will:
- Provide employers with information on Insurance, Health & Safety and student welfare.
- Complete Health & Safety Assessments on work experience placements prior to students starting their placement.
- Provide schools with an electronic log book and copies of the 'Work Experience Guide for Parents'.
- Provide all maintained schools with access to, and train staff on, the use of our bespoke on-line web-based database.
- Provide Independent schools in Worcestershire with a full or part service for work experience, there is a charge for this service which varies dependent on the level of use and number of students involved.
